ARTIST BIO
Bryan K. Marrero (Better known simply as Yan or @CryingOuji, born in Queens, NY on May 6th 1999, is a mixed-media interdisciplinary artist who focuses primarily on themes involving, but not limited to, technology, philosophical theory, futurism, post-internetism, and existential dread. All of which are conveyed through the use of snapshots of images seen on LCD screens, crude markings, digital & physical collage, original photography, screenshots, abstract paintings, and more. Bryan, more commonly referred to as Yan by his close friends and within the creative workplace, initially studied film throughout his young-adult youth at the Academy for Careers in TV & Film, located in Long Island City, NYC. Yan’s background in film and media production was not the only thing that inevitably thrusted him into becoming a fine-artist, Yan has also spent a lot of time singing, dancing, and performing, coordinating local fashion and niche-subcultural meetups in local NYC public parks, and even worked most of his life as a barista for various cafes. All of these things, alongside living in the rich, chaotic city of New York, being bombarded by stimulus nonstop and truly living the fast life, have come together to create Bryan K. Marrero, Yan, CryingOuji. Yan is a soon-to-be holder of an Associate’s of Science Degree in Fine Arts, and plans on opening his own small-exhibitions with his fellow artist-companions, continue exploring different mediums, and even create films and music.
